MARY

Speaking about the minor characters of the story, we are to mention Mary - a woman who takes care of the newborn. This woman was mentioned only once in the story: “It is fortunate Mary is so good with the baby. Such a dear baby! And yet I cannot be with him, it makes me so nervous.” But still we can assume that she is a very loving and pleasant person. Some critics have pointed to the name Mary as a clear reference to the Virgin Mary – a strong symbol of love and motherhood.
